My older sister just recently celebrated her 21st birthday for the eighth time this year. So in celebration, we all got together for dinner at Burgers & Brew here in Sacramento. They serve a couple delish veggie option and it's also a nice happy medium for the vegans and the veggie opposition we have in our family .
Last year, I had a high fructose corn syrup (and other nasty ingredients) intervention with my sisters fridge and pantry. Luckily she was receptive towards change, and actually jumped on the train with me a couple months after I decided to. It makes me feel really happy and proud that I could help in some small way to inspire her to a healthier life.
So obviously I had to make my big sister some cupcakes for her birthday, but not just any cupcakes. They had to be the best! And so, where do you find the creme da la creme? Isa Chandra Moskowitz knows a thing or two about that subject. She's put out an incredible selection of cookbooks that have rocked my world, but I actually got this recipe off her website. It was adapted from her "Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World" c(ake)book and is absolutely my favorite cupcake ever!
What makes it my favorite? Oh, I don't know. Could it be the creamy chocolate mousse topping? Or maybe the small, fluffy handful of cakey goodness. Or maybe my apprehensive grandfather eating one(after we lied to him and told him they weren't vegan) and hearing words of praise come through his mouth.
They turned out to be a great party pleaser, and I got to come home to a bowl of leftover mousse. I think maybe my sister should have birthdays more often!
...as for next year, we are planning an intervention for my brother's bacon cheeseburger ways. We're coming for you.
